Why did God send Trump?

Why did God send Trump?

What on earth does God have to do with Donald Trump?

iDose readers in Western democracies will unlikely be surprised to hear that the decline in religious belief, and more specifically, the decline in people who believe in the God of monotheism continues its march.

Indeed, it’s hardly difficult to find liberal elites (irrespective of party affiliation) who have an utter disdain for people that genuinely believe in the God of Christianity, Islam or Judaism.

Though ironically, some of these very liberal elites are on a mission that is perhaps best described as a crusade.

They are doing anything and everything from stopping the evil Donald Trump from reclaiming the presidency of the most powerful nation in human history (power measured in absolute terms).

The fact that far too many of them can not mentally process the reality of the first Trump presidency, let alone Trump’s continued relevance is perfectly obvious.

But in attempting to defeat their enemy, wouldn’t it make sense to be able to empathize with Trump supporters? Wouldn’t it make sense to understand both their personal beliefs in themselves, in addition to the external factors that are shaping those beliefs and/or fueling their discontent?

It is here that the ‘Never Trumper’ has most vividly failed to recognize the continued relevance of religion.

Declining belief in the God of monotheism doesn’t translate into religion not playing a central role in the lives of millions of Americans, not least Trump voters.

While there are a number of fascinating articles in this month’s iDose issue, one certainly worth reading is written by a distinguished anthropologist, who went to the heart of Trumpland to get an in-depth understanding of what Trump followers believe.

What he discovered was an issue that iDose has raised before.

Failing to accept that millions of Americans believe that Trump is “anointed and appointed by God to be the President” translates into failing to accept the powerful religious component of his movement.

And it will make Trump’s second coming all the more likely.

ps. This newsletter was written prior to Biden’s primary in Michigan, in which preliminary analysis indicates notable voter anger against at Biden for his psychotic policy towards Israel.
