Is the formal inquiry to impeach Trump the right LEGAL move?

Yes.

Is it the right POLITICAL move?

If you put politics above the rule of law (which countless politicians do), it’s a coin toss in terms of the election. 

IT IS WAY TOO EARLY to say how this will impact the 2020 American election. Nobody knows.

And that goes for the cable news hosts making thousands (sometimes tens of thousands) of dollars a day. Money can buy a lot of stuff, but it can’t make you a prophet – Aly Kamadia
