“Is there intelligent life beyond Earth?”
The cynic’s answer is straightforward: Given the political, economic, and business “leadership” we have witnessed in the 21st century—and historically—the more pressing question is whether there is any sign of intelligent life down here on Earth.
Cynic’s might point to humanity’s track record as grounds to strip us of the “intelligent” label entirely. Yours truly would counter that I have seen some documentaries highlighting the remarkable intellect of octopuses, so we needn’t be completely dismissive of Earth just yet.
Jokes and excessive cynicism aside, the search for intelligent life beyond our planet is endlessly fascinating, even to those who don’t typically follow science. Within the realm of astronomy, it is arguably the single most captivating question that lights up the public’s imagination.
And so, I thought it would be fun to go straight to the source. I interviewed an Oxford-minted Astrobiologist and Professor to see how he approaches the question.
Whether you follow science closely or not, this week’s iDose Magazine interview is a fascinating read that might just help you finally answer that alluring question for yourself.
