Dear Readers,
Is the US already at war alongside Israel against Iran?
One of the reasons you received a newsletter from yours truly this past Monday afternoon was due to how rapid the situation between Israel and Iran was escalating (and still is).
While I stated on Monday that direct US involvement in a war prosecuted against Iran was not “inevitable”, I have no doubt that Netanyahu will do everything conceivable in attempting to draw in America.
Indeed, Netanyahu has been dreaming of this moment for decades, and his goal is nothing short of total collapse of the Islamic Republic’s regime.
And on the eve of June 17th (as I write this), he sees American President Donald Trump demanding “unconditional surrender” from Iran.
He sees that while Trump’s messaging is mixed and sometimes incoherent (in other words, Trump as usual), there is speculation that some US military assets that have been deployed may (emphasis on ‘may’) be for potentially joining in on a military assault against Iran.
But at the time of this writing, the US is not yet directly participating in any ‘limited’ operations, or ‘surgical strikes’ – let alone pursuing yet another strategically foolish military campaign in the Middle East.
As far as America goes, the ball is in Trump’s court. And let us hope that his unmatched incompetence is eclipsed by his deep instincts to keep the US out of ‘forever wars’.
PS. iDose has added two other pieces since Monday. One is a sober assessment from a former Israeli foreign minister. And since we’re focusing on the Middle East, some readers will be interested in a piece that describes the lives of Syrians after Assad.
As usual, I welcome and am thankful for any and all input.
