Is Iran at War?

By Aly Kamadia, Editor-In-Chief, iDose

Dear Readers,

Are we witnessing the beginning of serious war between Iran and Israel? If so, will America be sucked in, and continue its counterproductive foreign policy of ‘forever wars’?

While I typically refuse to engage in the often-futile act of forecasting human affairs, I temporarily shoved that hesitation aside roughly a year ago (April 17th, 2024), to speculate precisely on these questions.

I did so not least because, at the time, it involved asking “a question that American broadcast media outlets are paying insufficient attention to: Is the United States going to be dragged into a hot war (i.e., not a cold war) against Iran?”

The two conclusions I reached were clear.

First, “…at the time of this writing, it appears more likely than not that Netanyahu and his goons will fiercely pursue a war with Iran with the intention of drawing in the US.”

Along with the first conclusion, I stated that such a war was, “one in which the US will inevitably sucked into”.

Israel’s June 13th (2025) attack on Iran was militarily highly successful, and certainly fierce enough to ignite a serious war between the two countries.

Unfortunately, my first prediction has thus been proven correct. Even if no war materializes, to reiterate, Israeli actions against Iran clearly constitute the fierce pursuit of a war.

Whether the “US will inevitably [emphasis added]” be sucked into such a war (i.e., second conclusion) is now more questionable – particularly because of a rapidly changing Middle Eastern political landscape (the October 7th Hamas attacks were a crucial turning point).

After all, prior to the Israeli attack, a number of Arab countries in the Middle East were very constructively involved in assisting the Trump administration and Iran to reach a mutually beneficial deal – one that would hopefully lead to rapprochement.

The likelihood of pursuing such a deal has been temporarily, if not permanently thrown out the window.

Moreover, a very significant portion of Trump’s MAGA base abhors the very thought of Trump engaging the US into yet another Middle Eastern war.

Put differently, the facts have changed. There is nothing inevitable about the US being dragged into a war against Iran courtesy of Netanyahu.

And rather than pretending to prophecize about what comes next, a much more appealing approach would be to outline various possible scenarios that lie ahead.

Which is precisely what Ian Parmeter does in a commentary that I have posted and is live on our website

As usual, I welcome and am thankful for any and all input.
