Dear Readers,

We have witnessed yet another twist in the unfolding reality television show known as American politics.

It seems like almost a lifetime has passed since I labelled President Trump a ‘walking and talking virus’.

But that was only last Wednesday.

Since then, Trump’s Covid-19 diagnosis (made a few days later on Friday) forced him to be transported to Walter Reed Hospital, where he is said to have received a potent cocktail of pharmaceuticals.

Which is quite the predicament for a man who markets himself, successfully to millions of ardent followers, as their divine savior. After all, how could any genuine god’s fate rest in the hands of some hospital?

Aware of these horrible optics, Trump bulleted out of the medical facility as soon as he could. By Monday evening, he was seen confidently walking up the stairs of the White House while using the opportunity to slap science once again.

Trump simply couldn’t resist appearing strong and resolute while taking off his mask, precisely before entering a White House sheltering staff in fear of catching the virus from a contagious president. His twitter message to not fear Covid-19 was unsurprising, and certainly wasn’t received by the 200 000 plus Americans who have died due to it.

Regarding Trump’s recovery, his Doctors have stated that he is ‘not out of the woods’.

The same can be said of American Democracy. To declare that it isn’t threatened by Trumpism would be grossly premature.
