Despite his Crimes, Trump will remain Free

This Thursday, June 9th, the United States (US) House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the US Capitol will begin its public hearings.

The hearings are undoubtedly important. After all, the most powerful democracy in the world, which also happens to be the most powerful country in human history, has shown the world precisely how fragile its democracy is. The January 6th attack was a clear attempt, on the part of some, to overthrow American democracy and install Donald Trump as America’s permanent leader.

Should Trump face serious consequences for his obvious crimes, including his incitment of violence and attempt to overthrow the US government?

The question is meaningless, because no judge or jury will ever hold the power to throw Trump in jail.

In the real world, the question of whether Trump will face any consequences is a political question rather than a legal question. Given Trump’s ardent supporters, any serious attempt to ever shackle him in handcuffs would likely spark domestic chaos (e.g., violence throughout the country).

Nevertheless, in a democracy, the hearings serve to provide the public with transparency and more insight into the fiasco.

Not to mention, the opportunity for certain politicians and media pundits to do what their lives are dedicated to: enhancing their brands.

Let the show begin.

Stay safe,
