The situation with Israel and Lebanon is changing rapidly, and is most unfortunate. This month, we feature an article on the subject that provides a bit of historical context.
While historical context is important, so is the current situation. Yours truly won’t be offering any commentary on Israel or Netanyahu in this month’s iDose Magazine issue, with the exception of noting what ex-CIA Director, Leon Panetta, has stated about Israel’s pager attack:
“I don’t think there’s any question that it’s a form of terrorism. This has gone right into the supply chain. Right into the supply chain. And when you have terror going into the supply chain, it makes people ask the question: What the hell is next?”
Wherever one stands on the Middle East’s issues, I believe Panetta’s words should not be taken lightly.
I also believe that it would not serve iDose readers if I were to write the article that I planned to about Ismaili Muslims.
While I’m very thankful for all the feedback that I received, despite all of the work that I did, the conclusions that I reached were fairly straight forward: Contrary to the general decline of religion in the West, on balance, the Ismaili community appears to be thriving in the countries that I noted (Canada, the US and the UK). If I wrote a commentary on how I made those conclusions, the piece would sound like one big advertisement for the community, which is not what iDose Magazine is in the business of.
September 2024 marks iDose Magazine’s 5-year anniversary, and our issue is packed with great intellectual doses, including commentary on Israel-Palestine/Israel-Lebanon, the US Presidential Election, the threat that Big Tech poses towards free speech (authored by the Chancellor of the University of Oxford), and a fantastic piece about Einstein if you’re into philosophy.
I’ve also responded to readers’ questions in a Q&A where I address American politics and the current election.
