Will Religion be Threatened by AI

By Aly Kamadia, Editor-In-Chief, iDose

Dear Readers,

Posing the question of “will Artificial Intelligence (AI) threaten organized religion” is important. But the question is better rephrased by asking “has AI already damaged organized religion”, in addition to examining how AI technologies on the horizon will impact religious institutions.

This is one of many topics that I’ve been wrestling with as of late.

But since everyone and their mother has published about a hundred zillion articles on some topic relating to AI in the past few months (thanks to ChatGPT), I’m unsure of whether I’ll write up an AI piece anytime soon.

As editor-in-chief, however, I have chosen to feature articles on AI since launching iDose Magazine, which readers are well aware of.

Turning to this month, in a must read by the Professor of Philosophy and Founding Director of Applied Ethics at University of Massachusetts (Boston), Nir Herskovits explains why the central danger of AI lies in the human tendency to anthropomorphize the AI technologies that we’re playing with.

Along with articles by distinguished scholars who helped trigger the contemporary animal rights movement, are at the forefront of uncovering the complex relationship between exercise and the brain, and a PIMCO senior global strategist weighing in on the question of whether it’s smart for central banks to redefine inflation targets, I trust there is something in this month’s issue that all iDose readers will enjoy.

Ps. To my Canadian friends, I am hardly astounded that Prime Minister Trudeau and David Johnston have acted so elitist and are mind-bogglingly detached from the realities of everyday Canadians. The obvious conflict of interest in appointing Johnston to investigate anything having to do with Trudeau has rightfully angered many Canadians. And repeating anti-democratic acts like this, which seem to be occurring from a number of parties in many Western democracies, will continue to undermine the “rule of law” no matter how many cute speeches politicians give. To remind you, this is occurring during a historical era in which democracies are in retreat and weakening around the world, while American hegemony on the global stage seems to have passed.

Enjoy!
